Are these affordable compression boots worth it?

You might have heard about the compression boot hype and searched up a few of the top brands to find out… well, they can often cost an arm, or rather, a leg. REATHLETE is here to change that with a price point 1/2 or even 1/5 of some of the competition out there, they absolutely meet affordability. But the question remains, are they worth it? Producing a cheap product is easy, but can you do that while still producing a quality product? If you’re not on a tight budget and simply looking for the best compression boots, click here.

Throughout this article, we’ll be taking a deep dive into these leg massagers in order to give you an unbiased answer to these questions. Continue reading to find out if the REATHELTE leg massager is for you.

Are leg massagers legit?

Having skepticism is natural and completely fine… we constantly hear claims that these help with muscle pain, or even that they increase blood flow, how do we know what’s actually true, though? I can assure you, there is research regarding the legitimacy of compression boots and other styles of massage. However, they aren’t a win-all. You won’t instantly become a pain-free athlete breaking records simply because of a leg massager.

Now if you’re still reading and in a position where a slight improvement to your pain, increased blood flow, and possibly a decrease in time for recovery between workouts is a big deal to you… I have good news. The research shows using devices such as a compression boot system can reduce muscle oxidative stress, post workout pain, and even improve flexibility.

The real benefits of compression boots

If you’ve ever visited a masseuse, especially on a reoccurring occasion, you’ll know they aren’t exactly the cheapest, nor the most convenient. Now of course some will come to your home on your time, but that still requires pre-planning and scheduling.

A compression boot system such as the REATHLETE leg massager allows you to simply slip on a pair of boots and enjoy a massage. I personally like playing chess (I’m not too great, unfortunately) on my phone while using compression boots, but I know many athletes that use theirs while watching TV.

The convenience of getting a spontaneous, hands-free massage that requires virtually zero effort from the comfort of your own home is simply unparalleled.

Design & Size

With a bit of an unusual design, this leg massager allows for more flexibility and movement with an opening for your knees. By contrast, the competitor boots are closed from hip to foot, making them more restrictive. For example, it’s quite challenging to actually sit with most compression boots, you really only have the option of laying down. As you can see in the photo below, with the REATHLETE compression boots, you can easily sit while getting your at-home massage.

The fabric used across most of this leg massager is nylon, making for an easy slip-on, but not the absolute peak of comfort that you’ll see in some of the higher end (less affordable) options on the market.

What’s included?

With your purchase of an Air C Pro by REATHLETE, here’s what you’ll get:

  • The compression boots (full leg coverage)
  • Digital remote (for adjusting massage levels and duration)
  • A duffel bag for carrying your leg compression massager

Most compression boots on the market do not come with a carrying case, bag, or box. Some brands will allow you to purchase it separately, but it’s quite a standout that REATHLETE includes a bag for carrying your device while still being so affordable.

Does the Air C Pro stack up against the competition?

Short answer… sort of. It’s a bit unfair to ask for a 50-80% discount and to retain the same level of quality. You’ll notice a difference in the quality of material and therefore comfort.

The competition

It wouldn’t be fair to call this a proper review and comparison if we didn’t actually analyze those competitors, at least briefly. So we’ve taken the top 3 products in this niche and given a simple highlight box to allow you to get a quick look. Please keep in mind that all 3 of these products cost a significant amount more than the REATHLETE leg massager that we’re reviewing here.

In order to provide an unbiased verdict, we’ve analyzed a plethora of customer reviews across multiple platforms as well as asked our own pool of experts that includes personal trainers, gym owners, and professional athletes that use compression boots to give their take on the REATHLETE air compression leg massager.

Community Verdict

It’s very clear that many athletes choose to get an air compression leg massager to either help relieve pain, reduce leg cramps, or increase blood flow. Throughout these reviews, we noticed a handful of complaints regarding the zipper, how restrictive your legs are once the compression starts (even in some cases causing pain), the ‘cheapness’ of the material quality, and the product not working as expected.

Despite the complaints, this product still averaged 4/5 stars across its public reviews. As far as positive feedback went, many users mentioned how easy it was to get setup and begin using the boots. Others mentioned the heat aspect really helping after sustained workouts where they anticipated extreme muscle soreness and exhaustion.

PhytoMethod Verdict

The REATHLETE air compression leg massager is certainly an option if you’re on a very tight budget. Overall, we aren’t able to rate it very highly and therefore, we give it 3 out of 5 stars. Our main two reasons for this rating are:

  • Coverage (If you’re over 6 foot, it won’t cover your legs entirely, this is even clear from the photos on their website). These boots only cover the feet, calves, and parts of the thighs.
  • Lower material quality (I don’t fault them for this too much since the product is so affordable, but it is nowhere near the quality of the competition)

Thus, if you have some extra buffer in your budget, we would recommend going with the top of the line compression boot system by Normatec, which is a clear standout from the competition. You’ll notice an immediate jump in quality, strength of compression, and lets be honest, they just look much better. We are confident you’ll feel that you’ve made a much better investment into a product that will last. After all, what do they say? Buy nice or buy twice.
